Dogon Country - Great Treks, Beautiful Cliff Dwellings
What could be better than a multi-day trek between dramatic, ancient cliff villages, some only accessible by foot?  Welcome to to the magic of Dogon Country.

Scramble amongst the ancient Dogon dwellings

Stretching along towering cliffs for over 100 Km, Dogon Country is one of Mali's most memorable tourist sites.  The whole of Dogon Country has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Hikes up and down the cliffs are dramatic

Most visitors choose to visit Dogon Country on foot.  Trekking is the best way to get off the track and see Dogon villages at their finest.  You will truly be awed by the dramatic cliffs that are the defining feature of Dogon Country and the site of ancient Dogon cliff dwellings as far as the eye can see.  Mysteries await the curious hiker and careful observer.

"How did those Tellem people get up there", you will ask yourself as you see centuries old dwellings literally hundreds of feet off the ground.

Many villages are very well-preserved

Most visitors use Mopti, Sevar, or Bandiagara as jumping off points for visits to Dogon Country.  Trips can be arranged for as short as one-day to a multi-week full south to north traverse through all of Dogon Country.

Guides can be located for multi-day Dogon Country treks in any of these cities, and don't forget many of our Gao guides have extensive Dogon Country experience and can help arrange your visit there too.
