Camels are an integral part of Tuareg culture

Held in January of every odd year (2007,2009), the Festival of Anderamboukane is a real treat for adventure seekers.  Anderamboukane is a frontier town on the Malian side of the Mali-Niger border.  It is approximately 450 bumpy Km from Gao and 100 Km past the last major town of Menaka.  But, all of that traveling will be worth it when the destination is the Festival of Anderamboukane.

The festival is a transfrontier celebration of Tuareg culture, music, sports, and crafts.  In short, it is everything that an adventure seeker would want - remote, authentic, not heavily touristed.

Experience:  Attend the Festival of Anderamboukane - A Tuareg Biannual Cultural Festival

Description:  Get a close-up view of authentic Tuareg culture in this transfrontier festival held in odd-numbered years that brings together the Tuareg's of Niger and Mali.

Time Required: Approximately 4 - 5 days

Price:  Discuss with tour operators

Schedule: January of odd number years; contact Point Afrique or other travel agencies for specific dates, trips, etc.

Additional Tip: The remoteness of this festival requires visitors to book with a guide or tour operator.  Facilities in Anderamboukane are nearly non-existent, so independent travel to this festival would be extremely difficult and potentially dangerous.  Check the Anderamboukane Festival website for further details.
